Some councilís seem to think that if you put enough speed humps down along with chicanes and other restrictions, and the accident rate significantly reduces over a period of time, that they have done a marvellous job; but have they?

If you had your house burgled today, would you put a barbed wire fence round it and a minefield so that it wouldn't happen again. I think that would be over the top; by all means get an alarm fitted and maybe some extra locks. It is about balance, you could probably introduce less speed restrictions and still have far less accidents, still making it more comfortable for the road users, whether travelling by car, bus or bike. It would also reduce the noise that lorries make when they go over the speed humps, annoying nearby residents. We are talking about balance brought about by the use of knowledge and common sense.
